Make Money and Have Fun as an Air Courier
If you like to travel, live near a busy airport and you’d be willing to travel at a moments notice then working as a freelance air courier could be for you.
The role of an air courier is much like that of a motorcycle courier except you are travelling internationally. You are hired to carry an item to a specified destination, usually within a specific time period.
The items that you are asked to carry can vary enormously but generally they are items that can’t be trusted to the postal system or normal cargo courier services. These may be important letters, reports, contracts or signed business documents. The sender needs to be certain they are handed to a specific person or business and they are happy to hire your services to get the documents to where they need to be. I’ve also carried computer disks, medication that had been left at home and some machine parts required for a prototype in Germany.
In recent months I’ve flown to various places in Europe, the middle and far east and north america. Living right next to Heathrow airport means I’m very conveniently situated for short notice trips.
Most of the big courier companies don’t employ full time air couriers. This has brought opportunities fro freelance air couriers like me.
The various courier companies who I freelance for will generally give me a call. When I’ve confirmed that I am available to carry out the job they go ahead and book my flight, letting me know when I need to be at the airport.
Generally, a representative from the courier company will meet me at the airport, give me my ticket and hand over the item that I shall be transporting. They will often have already checked me in which is a great help. I usually get to fly in first class, which is fantastic.
Normally I don’t need to contact the recipient at the destination. The courier company will normally have arranged this so that I will be met at the destination airport by the recipient who will sign for the item.
Generally I’ve been on a return flight home within hours of arriving at the destination, but occasionally I’ve stayed overnight, or longer.
Working as a freelance air courier is a great job if you are over eighteen, have a valid passport with no travel restrictions and you can be ready to go at a moments notice.
For great savings on Heathrow parking or Gatwick parking always book in advance. Don’t forget to make certain you have the right travel insurance before you go.
